At least bring common sense to the table
Part 1
Published on November 1, 2011 By BoobzTwo In Ethics

Personally I like the Book of Genesis as it makes an interesting read if one is into strange fantasy.  In The beginning there was either nothing or something depending on your point of view. It is strange but let’s take a look at the nothing concept first:

DAY 1: In The beginning there was nothing but darkness and out of the darkness came the One God who always was … in the darkness? Well eventually God became tired (?) of the darkness after however long and decided to have a go at empire building. God created the heavens and the earth from the dark nothingness. But the earth was without form however spiritually He was still able to ‘hover’ above the surface of the waters of the formless earth, some trick there. So God brought light into existence and managed to separate it from the dark somehow all the while wondering what the “????” had made Him live in the dark sooo long (at least the first half of infinity anyway).

DAY 2: This whole day was spent making Heaven to separate the waters above from the waters below. I would think that omnipotent and all-knowing could have made this whole six day process happen pronto like. As concerns the all-knowing part … why bother when you already know you will be destroying your creations anyway??? As a curiosity, I wonder where Heaven is supposed to be besides in the minds of the blind.

DAY 3: God then proceeded to gather all the water below heaven into one place so there could be land but is vague on why this displaced water didn’t flow back where it was happy. This must have been relatively easy though because there was still time on the third day to seed the entire flat earth with fruit bearing trees and grains.

DAY 4: God forgot he had already created light on DAY 1 but He created the stars anyway and placed them in Heaven so the sheeple to come could discern day from night and tell time.  Then He put the Sun and moon in the sky at the exact right distance for human life (so far unknown) to flourish.

DAY 5: God populated the earth with every living flying and swimming organism able to claim the breath of life. Now it might be pointed out here that countless animals have come and gone as well as whole species so this day I think was completely wasted or at best quite unsuccessful.

DAY 6: Here God populated the earth with all the animals and crawly things that were to exist??? This is where we come in, the sheeple. Lastly and I suppose this is where the problems creep in because he was so tired by now … He created man from the dirt and woman from man and gave them dominion over all other life on earth. How could they be given dominion over other people as there were no others?

DAY 7: God the all-powerful and all-knowing had to rest on the Sabbath to recover His weariness from creating everything from nothing out of the darkness of nothingness. Oh did I mention that in time because God was so exhausted from what should have been a finger snap, that he would have put to death anyone who is bold enough to work on Sunday, go figure. As we are just into Genesis part 2 of 50 … there is quite a bit to cover still, but I thought people would like to know how they and the entire Universe came into being is all. These are the only facts and only the facts, so help me God.

I finally figured out that the bible supports evolution much more than one imaginary god

There is nothing in favor of evolution to justify doubting the direct formation of the first humans by God.

Lula, you don't try to prove much other than you believe every mistranslated word in the bible to be infallibly true.

See that's just it. I don't use a mistranslated Bible. The reasons are simple. The Douay Rheims is an accurate word for word translation of St.Jerome (405AD) who was Greek speaking from birth, knew Latin perfectly, and at age 26 spoke Hebrew fluently. Besides that, he had many manuscripts to work from that are no longer extant.

The reason for all the mistranslations was the Protestant revolution in 1517. The early Protestant translations were full of gross errors which no unprejudiced Protestant will deny.

Another point is that I don't use my own noggin' for the interpretation of Scripture. Just as the Ethiopian eunuch asked a man of the church, Philip the deacon,  for the correct understanding of the Scripture he was reading, (Acts. 8:5),  I use the Magisterium of the Church as well as the interpretations of the Church Fathers and Doctors.

It is obvious to many but thanks anyway for admitting it, but you should start one of these days. Why don’t you do this first and then maybe we could communicate. Until then, you are just too besotted with your world of magic and so captivated by your invisible friends in an imaginary world that reality is the problem for you just because it doesn’t need any magic to work … it just takes an education without blinders on. At some point you have to learn to think for yourself ... determine something on your own without being told how and what to believe.

Genesis 6: Who are the ‘sons of god’ … and what right did they have to just take whatever human virgin they pleased (boys 1, girls-1)? This is the first contextually correct usage of the plural term ‘adam’ which translates as ‘humanity’. Strangely, god said (to whom?) that humans would live 120 years. This doesn’t measure up the biblical lifetimes of Genesis 5.

There were giants ‘in the earth’ then [why], that can mean anything from ogres to titans but so far is just a word??? I can only question the physiological problems with supermen and giants. A giant would require more oxygen in the atmosphere, oh the list is extensive. At some time in this biblical past were there no physics laws ever in place or is it all just magic?

Always men like … ‘became mighty men’ or ‘men of renown’; (boys 1, girls -1). And god saw that every frigging human being on the planet had nothing but wicked thoughts and was continuously evil but for ONE, a just and perfect man. Do you know how statistically improbable this is … like -infinity + 1. If this were true, wouldn’t the problem take care of itself with all the mayhem and whatnot? I cannot even conceive of anything considered civilized existing under such conditions.

Why the pretense of a flood … to teach the dead people, animals, fish and trees a lesson??? But god made his decision and told Noah what was to come and left instructions. And in three sentences Noah knew enough to build an ark of gopher wood in the desert??? God was to provide the flood waters “to destroy all flesh”, so that must include all the fishes too? Well god made a covenant allowing Noah to take his own corrupt family with him. How could this not be looked at as the beginning of nepotism? If these are godly moral indicators, I don’t like them???

Noah was instructed to bring all animal kind back to the ark male and female (just 1 pair each) and to provide all their nutritional requirements, meat eaters and veggie eaters alike. There should be no reason to doubt the logistics problems with this at least not for me. And Noah and his 7 family members did as commanded, somehow. Everyone today KNOWS how large the earth is and the dispersal of the fauna and flora (often geologically unique). The world couldn’t possibly have been smaller than it is now, right?

Genesis 7: Noah and family entered the ark.

2 – 3: God re-instructed Noah to gather seven of the clean beasts and all birds and two of the unclean animals as before. He must have considered the blood sacrifices as an afterthought, whatever.

4 – Just after getting the revised numbers, Noah is given 7 days until the flood begins.

5 – 6: Noah did what was commanded, somehow in seven days and was 600 years old when the flood begins.

7 – 9: Noah again goes into the ark with his family followed by the animals two by two … but only two of each two by two as in Genesis 6??? In Genesis 6, he was instructed to bring two of everything and all the necessary food stuffs.

10 –12: In Noah’s 600th year (2nd month, 17th day) all hell breaks out for forty days when all the fountains of the great deep broke up and the celestial spigots opened.

13 – 16: Reflecting (why???) Noah and family again enter the ark two by two and just two of each animal again, male and female.

17 – 20: The water continuously rose as did the boat until it was 22.5 feet above Mount Everest.

21 – 22: All flesh died as did all with a breath of life.

23 – And every living substance was destroyed.

24 – Water level maintained for 150 days.

Genesis 8: God remembered Noah and the animals … remembered??? And he made a wind blow that assuaged the water.

2 – 3: All the celestial water spigots were shut and the flood gates were unbroken??? And the water returned to whence it came, yea from whence it came. The water drained after 150 days.

4 – And the ark rested in the 7th month, the 17th day, upon the mountains of Ararat ~ 3 miles above sea level

5 – Here it says the waters continuously receded and in the 10th month, the 1st day, the top of Mount Everest ~ 5.5 miles above sea level (humm), was just peeping through the cleansing waters.

6 – 10: recap – On day 40, seemingly the moment it stopped raining and gushing, he let fly a raven (black) and then a dove (white) on the same mission. He recovered the dove and waited 7 more days (one of two ravens gone) and sent the dove back out.

11 – 12: the dove came back with an olive leaf, just what you would expect to find on the side of a 3 mile high mountain??? So Noah stayed another 7 days and decided to egress when the dove didn’t come back (minus one dove too).

13 – In the 601st year (1st day of the 1st month, Noah removed the top of the ark (look out the window?) and saw that the side of the mountain was dry, go figure.

14 – 15: Then it says (on the 27th day of the 2nd month … the ground was really dry??? And god spoke to Noah.

16 – 19: And all the animals and the 8 humans went forth into a completely dead world to be fruitful and to multiply???

20 – And Noah built the inevitable blood sacrificial alter unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar, except  for the two that got away??? There are no two by two clean pairs left???

21 – And the Lord smelled a sweet savor of burnt blood and relented, vowing not to destroy everything again in his apparent good mood.

22 – Then it is life as usual (24/7) just like it always has been… forever … what miracle.
