At least bring common sense to the table
I don't have no stinking party anymore

I am going to do a series of articles based on … you guessed it … stuck on stupid and why we seem to be unable (unwilling?) to break the habit so to speak. The first article will be on health care (for all) system and the absolute impossible stupidity we are endeavoring to bequest to our children for their continued sufferance.

I will take a few moments to set the stage for these and further articles. At any time in the recent past, were you to ask, I would have told you that I was a proud (sort of) Republican. I have re-evaluated my position as events unfolded this century and had settled on new self descriptive phraseology … proud (almost) conservative. I fear that I may end up being called a revolutionary … if things continue to progress as they are want to. Today’s political environment is so visceral and impossibly hostile to work within as to be impracticable to the point of impassible grid lock. Everyone is nasty and condescending and no one is listening to anyone and seemingly not even to themselves as long as they can get onboard someone’s bandwagon.

All three branches of government are self-service as opposed to servicing this country and its people.  The Judicial seems hell-bent on rewriting the constitution as opposed to enforcing the one we have. Why should we think they would be capable of enforcing ‘the new’ any better than ‘the old’?

There has never been a larger gap between the wants of Congress and the wants of the people in our entire history (although this is not virgin ground here). As this is where the purse strings are held, all you have to do is follow the money trail and what is (and has) been unfolding is obvious to the most casual observer. This disconnect is so extreme that I see no viable solution although as tolerant as I am, firing squads come to mind here. The holders of the money dictate the leanings of the Congress which promotes the influx of more money … presto … what you have is the perfect Catch 22 and the wants of the people NEVER filter into the equation.

This brings us to the Executive … a dynastic bag of worms. I don’t really want to get bogged down here as the last half century did little to represent the American people … with some exceptions of course. Personal legacy has superseded American prosperity almost without exception. Second term presidencies have done their utmost to unravel any actual first term achievements.  It’s all rather disgusting don’t you think.

Personally, I am dumbfounded that we have allowed the leashes we should have on our political leaders to become reversed such that we all suffer the devastating results of all the political intrigues and the petty bickering and mudslinging that takes place daily at all levels of government as opposed to actually achieving something constructive. Why … you might think we are in court and at the mercy of the vamped trial lawyers ... that’s right, most of them are lawyers and we are at their unrelenting mercy ... for now anyway!

I disagree with the timing - last half century.  I do believe that the last 20 years would be accurate.  But for various reasons, I do not believe that DDE, JFK, LBJ, or RWR were shooting for a legacy (not all for the same reasons of course).  It appears to have been started, perhaps a little with Carter, but gained full steam with WJC.  No longer was the goal to do what one thought was right, but to do what history would think was great.

Other than that, I sadly concur with the gist of your article.

Wow, a lot of big words here. Not use to this when you spend too much time texting.

I have to agree things are not as they should be and we only have ourselves to blame for ignoring the obvious. Our Gov't (regardless who is in control) has placed themselves as the judge, jury and executioner of the American peoples lives and most seem so willingly OK with it.

I believe our Forefathers would be ashamed if they were alive to see this with their own eyes. All the battles, all the sacrifices, all the lose of life and for what? So we can forget where we came from, who got us here and how. Instead we spend our time worrying about me, I and myself.

We may as well look at history as a inspirational way to create more fictional books and movies since we basically live our lives on chance as oppose to logic or experience. History, it seems, is nothing more than good material for the next "Blockbuster movie", FPS video game, Billboard # 1 song or Best Seller book to the average American.

This kind of situations makes me wonder how the average American resembles Homer Simpson's when they stick their fingers in an electrical socket over and over after getting shocked over and over.
