In a past life (last 10 years) when I was suffering mental fatigue, I was a self-professed neoliberal. Thanks to CharlesM for informing me this was the new (worldly) term for neocon, go figure. Well, I used to become disgusted when terms were being redefined before my very eyes by the liberal zealots. Then, something happened, a great brain fart I suppose and I grew a real conscience and boy was I surprised, no doubt. Many people have talked about being ‘born again’ … well that is what it felt like for me. I had previously, as all good neocons for some inexplicable reason do, assumed that only the other guys lie. It has come to my attention that the liberals feel exactly the same way sort of opposite like if you take my meaning. Take it from me that is a fabrication for sure. This just seems so simple and it has nothing to do with what one believes to be true now … both sides lie and we all know it so what is the problem here???
Is there some reason not to look for the truth? Isn’t it important to understanding why we as a Nation do what we do and why we do it? Seems as simple as asking Mr. Doolittle for a birth certificate … no can do??? And when did people become so stupid as to think some political party has viable … solutions. Are the blinders so firmly installed that reason is ignored as well as one’s own input ‘services’. Have you never been wrong or filled with BS? Are you not human? How could ‘sound bites’ become the norm and accepted for some resemblance to the truth … aughaaaa. Doesn’t make much sense to me?
This is not meant to insult women in any way, but one thing I have learned thru out the years is that most women seem to want a good man but always end up picking the wrong guy in the hopes of having their cake and eat it too. The same thing happens with politics, everyone wants what they think is best for our country, sometimes they will ignore the obvious bad things about politicians in the hopes they can have their cake and eat it too.
I tend to lean Republican not because I believed in Bush or McCain or Palin or even any of the current GOP candidates for 2012. I do because most of that which supposedly represents the Republican party also represents me. Sadly enough once a person becomes a politician, that which they claimed to believe in goes out the window as the vision of power and the flow of money from lobbyist comes within reach. I guess you can say this is quite common these days as I remember when singer and actors sang and acted because it's what they loved and that the money they made was simply a side effect of their choice and year after year they gave us one hit after another and before yo knew it several generations would recognize the name even when it was grandpa who mentioned it. These days it's about the money, how much they can make in the shortest amount of time. The end result is a singer who makes 2 or 3 albums in less than 2 years and is all of a sudden making movies or having their own TV show and there goes the music career.
Money and power is what motivates people these days. Especially politicians.
I am having difficulties with political direction right now. I have been conservative for a long time ... I just don't see much of it going on anymore. There is a saying about politics being Hollywood for the ugly … These idiots spend millions to look good for each other I suppose. Well, until we actually decide to effect repairs … they all are just blowing smoke and nothing constructive will get done. As far back as I can personally go … we have been bitching about the exact same things for decades now and still the debate rages on. If they cannot fix anything … how can we be so stupid as to keep electing them over and over? If there were any lessons for them to learn, don’t you think 20 or 30 years of failing should tell us something, you think. Makes one want to look for a “Pat Paulsen” re-creation, hahaha.
I can understand this feeling, but personally I can't deny my true nature and my true nature follows the same path of a Conservative mentality. The only problem is that regardless of how much any candidate may sound like the perfect man for the job, it's the job that's actually the problem or more to the point, the power the job gives.
And for us as well. Remember, Obama was seen like a rising star and short of giving him a Grammy, his road to the Presidency was literally compared to someone going to American Idol try outs and winning the whole competition.
Agreed. And perhaps that's why they get away with it. It seems the average person is more scared of change than we realize. They expect repetition, they expect to be told the same store every night before going to bed, they expect to things to be the same every day. I know because this happens to me quite often. I like the traditional in most cases; I am partially a creature of habit but I know and understand when change is necessary. Most people don't change unless they are forced to and even then. Take my sister-in-law for example, an otherwise intelligent woman, she does not understand why shit is still fucked up even under a man who supposedly was gonna fix everything if elected President and yet she will still vote for him again even though this current President has more in common with Bush that we thought possible.
Remember, people here were of the belief that nothing bad could happen to us. It's a typical mentality for people who have never really had to struggle. Compared to most countries, even poor people live in the lap of luxury here. There's a reason Cubans, Mexicans and South Americans are willing to risk life and limb to get here. Yup, it will take a huge disaster to get people to truly comprehend things. What has happened recently is not a huge disaster, it's simply a glitch as far as people here are concerned. When something like Japan's earthquake and tsunami size disaster happens here, then people will open their eyes.
Charles, sorry I must have gotten into something else and forgot this thread. I am no closer to solving this predicament now than I was then sorry to say. It is difficult at best to drift through all the biases and misrepresentations to acquire some semblance of the truth. I refuse to believe that all the people we have been electing were closet scoundrels … so it must be the jobs or the system or both. Truth be told, it hasn’t made much of a difference who we elected for some time now … we are kept on manmade precipices to be politically controlled (through the financial system) to prevent too much progress from being made by any one party for any length of time … so little to nothing gets accomplished over time and we continue to squabble over the same issues just corrected for the times. We do not appear to be an astute people do we?
