At least bring common sense to the table
… the movie – 2004 – By Michael Moore
Published on May 4, 2011 By BoobzTwo In Politics

I must confess that I actually thought I hated this man and everything he was about until I started experiencing an overload of inaccurate and fictitious information the USG keeps pounding out and calling it the truth … so I decided to try an independent review of what I thought I knew and didn’t really. So I never watched or read anything Moore was involved with but I was more than willing to tell you how screwed up he was. So I rented the movie from Netflix and watched it … and I was amazed.

I have watched it twice now and I cannot find one shred of much information that is not factual or accurate. Beyond some idiosyncrasies in his sense of humor (they are funny); he presents very valid arguments and backs them up with documentation and interviews. He brings to light many of the things I have discovered in my own research into deceit, terrorism and the USG.

When I was a liberal (before I knew better) the only accurate information had to come from another liberal else it was a lie??? Later when I made my second mistake and became a conservative I learned the error of my ways … the truth could only be had from like ilk … so imagine my confusion when I called the neolibs and neocons for what they are and went independent. Suddenly, I have no source of valid information at all now (seemingly hehehe). I have had no success at all trying to walk the moderate tightrope between all the sharks without one side or the other dragging me down, go figure.

As far as Democrats/Republicans are concerned, their only care about the independent majority is how many they can acquire each election. But no matter which side is the best recruiter or who gets most independent votes … matters that concern the moderates will largely be ignored or sidelined and the neo-politicians will go their own course virtually unrestricted and completely unaccountable.

woah...whiskey...and psychoak twins separated at birth!

The fact that those on the right side of the political spectrum can watch Fox news on a daily basis and not care, or be able to tell the whole channel is bs is telling. These people don't want facts, they just want to be stroked into thinking they are normal to be selfish fools.

First off, I barely even know psychoak.

Secondly, I consider the US to be a failing institution, to the point that the country is already dead and simply doesn't know it yet.

Thirdly, I consider all news channels taken in isolation to be suspect; only be assessing the aggregate of the information presented can a reasonably objective analysis be constructed. And even then, it's still faulty.

+1. I'll also note that my main reason for supporting the invasion of Iraq was because my dad was deployed as a US Marine in the vanguard of the invasion force. OTOH, at the time I barely understood politics in general, let alone the issues at hand.

BoobzTwo
I know, not a problem ... but at least I read the information and you did not, shame on me though. I think you have gone way beyond simpleton ... how low can you go!

Emphasis mine. Here's a hint, BoobzTwo: 4chan.

Bush Caught Lying About September 11th  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm73wOuPL60
Is Bush an "Idiot"? Video News. I was LMAO through the whole video.

'Caught lying' is a stretch.  Just another example of the clumsiness in storytelling highlighted in the second video.

As for that second video, I'm glad to know Linda Ronstadt's opinion.  And that Morning Joe thought it was worth quoting.  That's really helpful (was he angling for a date or something?).  I laughed at the rest, too.  But, at the time, and since, I was more interested in his policies and actions than his (lack of) public speaking ability.  Obsessing about the latter was, and remains, a frivolous exercise, a diversion, unserious.

And the 5th Estate 'documentary' was a rehash of all the truther idiocy.

I really hope you don't buy in to any of that, myfist0.  That you're just trying to be entertaining.

Sinperium – I am as open to debate as most, but if you noticed there is no such thing going on here, just a lot of talking points and whatnot. The Middle East has been unstable for, well forever. References to “if Saddam were here” are meaningless because we would not be having this discussion otherwise. I do not think much of this stuff about aluminum tubes is accurate … they were less than three inches (2.929133858267717”) in diameter Project Babylon was a reality, but I think you give it too much relevance.

If “that doesn't invalidate the fact that Iraq was a threat and danger in many ways and always had been.” … did we suddenly grow a conscience or something, we are talking the USG here you know? Sure Saddam was a very bad guy … but he certainly wasn’t the worst so did we make another moral decision here? If megalomania were a crime punishable by death, I think there would be a large downward fluctuation in the earth’s population, go figure. And I have no idea who you asked about Libya, but people of like mind in my circles just want the USG to stop its aggression around the world.

The funny thing about frenzies and rants is that it is always the other guy doing it. I have found that the most racist people I know … are the ones who cry racism the loudest … just a thought. Nothing in life is simple except maybe childbirth (child’s perspective).

I don't know why you guys feed the troll....

Boobz, it isn.t the tube diameter that was so important, it's the fact they wer machined aluminum with relatively thick walls and one piece with flanges. It's the sort of thing you use to mount and shield/reinforce modular components with such as rocket motors and fuel lines and multi element warheads. It's way too expensive a component for a mere dumb rocket and too high quality for simple missiles or artillery warheads. My reply is more to the point of Michael Moore and his film and you're right, there is no conscience in the film-- just an angry effort to cast blame and be right so others will do the same. It's effectively propaganda. As to Project Babylon, it was known to have been conducted for two things--to threaten Israel and Iran. That was the only use for it and it's stated purpose by Saddam (theIsrael part). I'm not saying that invading Iraq was a good or rightly done choice by us. I'm pointing out that in all the outrage and indignation in these sort of slanted pieces, it's never evenly applied. Troll feeding is like the annual running of the bulls--sometimes you jump in and sprint a few yards.

Further, me figuring out for myself is not the naffing point of a debate; you are supposed to convince me that my view is wrong and yours is correct. Not for me to prove my own naffing view wrong. You fail at basic debating and rhetoric.
I am sure you could if you tried. I can easily prove most of your facts are in error … hum, did you give any facts at all?   From here …
BoobzTwo
I must have missed this part of debate class …And what views of mine are you referring to here besides the fact that I liked the movie. If you can figure out what the debate is over here, let me know, hehehe.
Seems pretty clear to me.    To here …
Whiskey144
The debate is on the factual validity of a pseudo-documentary made by that idiot Michael Moore.
Seems pretty unclear to you though. How am I supposed to take this seriously, hehehe. I believe everyone here is aware of your feelings for the movie and the person.  To here?
Whiskey144
Either incontrovertibly prove that I am a simpleton because I disagree with you, or STFU and GTFO, you naff bitch.
ok you got me here ... I just cannot do it ... but if you want to talk probability here, I'd say about 99.9999999%. I cannot go that last 1/10,000,000th yet. You do not need my help in this endeavor is all? I know you do not agree with me and I have no idea why anyone would fake simpletonism? Never seen anyone so hungry for “incontrovertibly proof” … aren’t we all?
Whiskey144
I consider the US to be a failing institution, to the point that the country is already dead and simply doesn't know it yet.
Sounds like the perfect reason to believe the USG for sure.
Whiskey144
You will, of course, provide incontrovertible evidence that the mustard gas in Saddam's possession was sold to him by the United States government.
No such document exists but it can be traced through German and Dutch brokers ... did you happen to catch the “we probably sold him” before demanding incontrovertible evidence?
Whiskey144
Closing a forum for political discussion would be un-American, yes. Luckily, this is not a forum, but is in actuality a thread. Which of course means that it is perfectly valid and within American policy to lock, because this thread is rapidly degenerating into uselessness, as evidenced by BoobzTwo's continual ridicule of her opposition, in spite of the fact that she has provided zero evidence for the rightness of her views.
… within American policy ???… Rapidly degenerating into uselessness …where you been for the last 50 or 60 posts??? Lastly, who are the degenerates … indeed?

As I believe the war turkey shoot in Iraq is as unjust as things can get, I place the impetus for it on the 9/11 Bush conspiracy. That is why I have done so much investigating there. I thought there were many poignant points in the movie but the statements made by Bush, Rice and Powel as to the existing conditions in Iraq in late 2000 and early 2001was one and this little bit of info should have sufficed to prevent the war from starting. They said that the injunctions against Iraq have worked better than expected and that Saddam has not been able to repair his war machine ... that he was no threat to the Middle East or the world from a military standpoint, go figure. Hard for me to believe such drastic conditions could have reversed themselves in less than two years under those conditions. They even went so far as to state that He had made no progress at all in the WMD department and that what he had ... was seriously degraded.

I am sure you could if you tried. I can easily prove most of your facts are in error … hum, did you give any facts at all?

1. The burden of proof is on you, you naffing idiot. YOU made the claim that you consider Moore's film to be factual, whilst I disputed that. Thus, you must provide the proof that Moore's film is indeed factually valid.

2. I have presented no facts, because the burden of proof is not on me.

BoobzTwo
Seems pretty unclear to you though. How am I supposed to take this seriously, hehehe. I believe everyone here is aware of your feelings for the movie and the person.

My description and/or feelings regarding Moore's film and person are only relevant to the debate insofar as they provide evidence for my position that said film is factually invalid and that Moore is an incompetent moron.

BoobzTwo
ok you got me here ...

My challenge is by definition unanswerable, because you can't prove I'm a simpleton for disagreeing with you. Further, that you continue to hold said opinion only illustrates just how truly naffing stupid you really are. I'm not a simpleton, you're simply an idiot.

As for the "proof" part, the burden of proof is still on you. The ball is in your court, so to speak.

BoobzTwo
Sounds like the perfect reason to believe the USG for sure.

You'll note that I've never actually said I trust and/or believe anything the US government says. I've said that I'd trust Bush more than Michael Moore, but I still wouldn't trust Bush that much, because I have a basic distrust of politicians in general.

BTW, the technical term for this statement of yours is "spin doctoring". It's exactly the same thing Moore does, so I'd say you did learn something from his fallacious and factually invalid film.

BoobzTwo
… within American policy ???… Rapidly degenerating into uselessness …where you been for the last 50 or 60 posts??? Lastly, who are the degenerates … indeed?

For one thing, there was some satirical commentary in that comment. That you fail to realize it only proves you're stupidity. For another, this thread is rapidly degenerating into uselessness because in the OP you claim that the majority of information presented in Moore's film is factually correct.

I'm disputing that, and you have, to date, provided zero information that disproves my position.

WRT the "degenerates", that would be you. For several reasons:

1. You insult people with a veneer of civility. This is drawn back to the "gutter language" comment of yours and the fact that you continue to consider those who hold the opposing viewpoint to yours to be "simpletons".

2. You're guilty of numerous logical fallacies, including:

2a. Ad Hominem Attack: you call your opposition simpletons instead of actually trying to disprove their claims.
2b. Style Over Substance: you consider my arguments invalid because of my use of "gutter language".
2c. Strawman: you're pretty much ignoring the actual debate in favor of some ridiculous one you've concocted.
2d. Hasty Generalization: you take the small group of definable events in which the USG is wrong, and use them to say "USG is always lying and wrong".

I'd say that that more than proves you're an idiot.

BoobzTwo
You have got to be joking ... right? How is anyone supposed to take you seriously, go figure.

No, my dad really was part of the vanguard during the 2003 invasion. However, this statement is a perfect example of a dishonest debating tactic called "cherry-picking". Because, you naffing idiot, you are taking the statement out of context.

If you had bothered to read past that sentence, or actually pay attention to the context, then you would realize that at the time I had little understanding of politics in general, and hence my reason for supporting the 2003 invasion was because my father was a servicemember who was part of the invasion force.

It's not that hard to understand, you naffing idiot.

Whiskey...there are no Elemental people here....their still trying to get their game to work. On second thought , maybe between OOM crashes.

You're an idiot. On the first page alone of this thread, I count five people posting from the Elemental forums, excluding yourself. Top it off with a sixth person on the second page, and the fact that three of the five from the 1st page continued posting from the Elemental forums.

I'd also like to ask you about this comment, from earlier in the thread:

whiskey...when all else fails, start the name calling. You showed your true colors, it usually doesn't take long.

And where else have I conversed with you, hmm? TBH, I don't recall ever seeing a post by you, let alone holding a conversation or debate with you. Because AFAIK, I have never posted stuff back and forth with you, so as far as I'm concerned, you don't know jack shit about me.

on May 08, 2011
Whiskey....you just called me an idiot, when all I was trying to do was to bring a little sarcastic humor in to the conversation. An olive branch even....making fun of the obvious Elemental getting it to run problems. Read that post again and I will wait for your apology.

I would apologize, since you've stated that your post was made in jest.

But that last sentence reeks of pomposity, and so I will wait until you prove that you aren't as pompous as that sentence makes you look.
